OVERVIEW
I was contracted by the California Community Living Network to create a branding system, illustrations, explainer video and marketing materials for the PAVE Service Outcomes Project which will pilot out a new system to promote improvement in the quality of life outcomes experienced by people with developmental disabilities and their families across California. Both CCLN and PAVE have existing logos that they were not looking to change, however they wanted a refreshed look and feel to their marketing materials that would reflect the people they serve in a dignified way, while garnering participation and engagement.

PROCESS
I started with the colors of the existing logos to use for an expanded color palette that would be comprehensive enough to use in more detailed illustrations. After pulling the main logo colors as the base of the color palette, I added a set of neutrals, complementary colors, pastels and brights that could be used broadly in illustration and video. I then added typography, and a watercolor-based illustration style that would add a human touch. The color palette, typography, and illustration style are all based on the ideas of being friendly, accessible, forward-thinking and people-oriented. I chose Ballinger Mono for the header type and Gira Sans for the body type. They are both friendly, modern, and easy to read.

ILLUSTRATION
The illustration style is a simple, watercolor-based style drawn in Adobe Fresco that is friendly and depicts people in a realistic, yet simple style. In situations where adaptive equipment or service animals are shown, the person is in full color while the equipment is not, to focus on the individual and not the disability.

MOTION GRAPHICS
CCLN was also looking for a video to explain what the PAVE Project Service Outcomes project is. Below are some excerpts of animation from the video. This was a quick turnaround, so it was important to use simple animation and graphics that wouldn’t be too time consuming to build into a 4-minute video, that also complement the watercolor style of the static illustrations.
MARKETING MATERIALS
CCLN asked me to create marketing materials including an easy-read document for people with disabilities to better understand what PAVE is, as well as a recruitment announcement for individuals to answer a questionnaire.
